Jets Stun Bucs in Final Seconds

08 Sep

First it was Herman Edwards in 1978, then it was DeSean Jackson in 2010, and now it’s the Jets after a boneheaded late hit on Geno Smith leading to a Nick Folk game winning 48-yard field goal in an unbelievable dramatic game.

Miracle at the Meadowlands #3???

The Jets were ahead 15-14 with under 2 minutes to go when Josh Freeman hit Vincent Jackson on 3rd and 10 for 37 yards putting the Bucs in field goal range.

After 3 running plays, Ryan Lindell put Tampa Bay ahead nailing a 37 yard field-goal with 38 seconds left. The Jets hopes looked bleak, especially with no timeouts.

With 30 seconds left, Smith hit Kellen Winslow for 25 yards which put the Jets at their own 45 yard line. After the Jets spiked it, Geno Smith scrambled for 10 yards, and was then foolishly hit out of bounds by Lavonte David.

That resulted in a 15-yard penalty putting the ball all the way at the Bucs 31 yard line. With 7 seconds left, Nick Folk drilled a field goal giving the Jets the win 17-15.

It was an absolutely crazy game and the Jets now have momentum going into a Thursday night showdown with the Patriots in Foxborough.
