Panthers Outlast Jets

15 Dec

Two crucial mistakes on back to back possessions ended up being the difference in the Jets 30-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

Entering the 4th quarter trailing by 3 points, it appeared the Jets would have a great chance to win the game. But Carolina blocked a Ryan Quigley punt giving the Panthers the ball at the Jets 14-yard line.

Three plays later, a Mike Tolbert 1-yard touchdown run made the score 23-13 Carolina. On the ensuing Jets drive, Geno Smith reverted back to his rookie ways throwing a pick six to Captain Munnerlyn sealing the Jets fate.

The Jets playoffs aspirations were hanging by a thread entering Sunday, but with the Dolphins win over the Patriots, and this loss, it’s essentially pack it in sweet heart time.

Cam Newton was superb for Carolina throwing for 273 yards, and compiling a 118.9 rating.

Other then the pick six, Geno played a controlled game completing 15 of 28 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown.

Running the ball wasn’t a problem for the Jets either. Gang Green racked up 157 yards on the ground against the NFL’s number one rush defense. Sheldon Richardson added a rushing score for the first touchdown of his career.

After running mouth…again, Santonio Holmes had just 2 catches for 14 yards against the Panthers “weak” secondary.

Dee Milliner’s disastrous rookie season continued when he failed to hold the sideline allowing DeAngelo Williams to run 72-yards for a touchdown late in the 2nd quarter.

Believe it or not, the Panthers are now tied atop the NFC South with the New Orleans Saints. The two teams will square off for the 2nd time in two weeks next Sunday from Bank of America Stadium in what’s sure to be a high intensity game.

The Jets will host the Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium.
