It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Batman, no, it’s LeBron James.
After breaking his nose in last week’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, LeBron was forced to miss Monday’s game against the Bulls before making a triumphant return to the lineup last night against the Knicks.
Instead of following in the footsteps of Richard Hamilton who trademarked the clear mask, LeBron changed the mask game forever with a super-hero like look.
James had been discussing wearing a unique mask, but the ultimate reason why he went with what he did was simply for comfort reasons.
“It lessens the impact,” said James. “You can still feel it, because the nose is still tender. But it definitely lessens the pain.”
As for his performance in the game, LeBron led all players in scoring with 31 points and shot an other-worldly 68 percent from the field in Miami’s 26-point win over the Knicks.
If you didn’t know that was LeBron on the tv screen, you may have thought it was a character from Batman.
So the next time a player breaks his nose, all the talk will be what kind of mask that player will wear.
Get used to it.
