With the 22nd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft the Cleveland Browns select Johnny Manziel, aka “Johnny Football”, the quarterback from Texas A&M.
This is the 3rd time in as many years the Browns have taken a quarterback with the 22nd overall pick. Brady Quinn was picked 22nd in 2007, and Brandon Weeded was as well in 2012. The first two did not pan out the way Cleveland would have liked, and you can bet the Browns faithful will be praying “Johnny Football” can be the long term answer at quarterback.
Manziel is listed at 6’1, 209 pounds. In college at Texas A&M, he was one of the most polarizing college quarterbacks in recent memory.
He became the first freshman ever to win the coveted Heisman trophy in 2012, only to be followed one year later by fellow freshman Jameis Winston.
His game, both on and off the field however, has been heavily scrutinized. Many think his game does not translate to the NFL, he takes too many hits, he’s too reckless, and he’s too short.
Off the field, Manziel has been seen sitting court-side at professional sporting events, suspended for allegedly signing autographs in exchange for profit, and partying.
It’s unclear at this time if Manziel will be the opening day starter, but there’s no doubt who the media will be rooting for.
