California Chrome owner Steve Coburn was not surprisingly very upset after his horse came up short in the Belmont Stakes.
While he was being interviewed by NBC in the race’s aftermath, Cobrun unleashed a bitter rant about why he believes there will never be another Triple Crown winner.
This was probably not the best time for Coburn to go off because it made him sound like a sore loser, but he does have a point. California Chrome was burnt out, and it showed by the way California Chrome ran. Other horses like Tonalist who ended up winning, were fresh going into the race.
That very point is what makes winning the Triple Crown so tough. The horse racing world will just have to wait and see if Coburn’s remarks spark any changes to the sport.
