Paul Pierce, Brooklyn hardly knew you. After just one season with the Brooklyn Nets, Paul Pierce is headed to the Washington Wizards on a 2-year deal worth $11 million, according to reports.
Pierce was originally hoping to land a 2-year deal in the $18-$20 million dollar range, but took less to head to D.C.
The 36-year-old Pierce spent the first 15-years of his career with the Boston Celtics, but is now joining his 3rd team in the last 3 years.
Last season with the Nets, Pierce averaged a career low 13.5 points per game in 75 games played.
Following a slow start to the season, Pierce helped lead the Nets to the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference and a thrilling 7-game series win over the Toronto Raptors. Brooklyn was eventually eliminated by the Miami Heat in 5 games.
Pierce is expected to bring a veteran presence to a young, up and coming Wizards group that lost to the Indiana Pacers in 6 games in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. He will join budding stars John Wall and Bradley Beal, who should benefit significantly from Pierce’s experience.
With Trevor Ariza departing for the Houston Rockets, Pierce also fills Washington’s void at small forward.
