Food Review: Chick-Fil-A

06 Mar

For the first time since March of 2014, I have made my way to Chick-Fil-A.

A new location recently opened in West Hartford, Connecticut and after hearing all the hype from virtually every living person, I had to reacquaint myself with the fast food joint.

Going in, I did my research.  I reached out on social media and received tremendous feedback about how to the get most out of my Chick-Fil-A experience.

I came to the conclusion I needed to get the Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich, a side of waffle fries, and packets of Chick-Fil-A sauce, something I’ve never had before.  Note, this was before Bill Simmons’ website “The Ringer” named Chick-Fil-A’s waffle fries as the top fast food item in the world.

It should also be known I asked the person who took my order whether I should get the deluxe chicken sandwich with cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickles, or stick with the regular sandwich with just pickles.  She recommended the non-deluxe version, so that’s what I went with.

So after ordering the regular Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich and waffle fries, here were my takeaways:

  • The Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich was sensational, and the Chick-Fil-A sauce couldn’t have been a better compliment.  The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, the pickles added the perfect amount of sour balance and the Chick-Fil-A sauce put the sandwich over the top.
  • The bun allowed the chicken and sauce to take centerstage while contributing a nice amount of sweetness to the sandwich.
  • Although the ingredients were remarkably simple (fried chicken, pickles, Chick-Fil-A sauce, bun), the sandwich was easily up there with some of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had.  It exceeded any and all expectations I had, and as someone who tends to be a harsh food critic, that’s saying something.
  • The waffle fries were a different story.  They were painfully average and the fact The Ringer had the nerve to name Chick-Fil-A’s waffle fries as the top fast food item in the world is a flat-out embarrassment.  You can easily get better fries at places like McDonalds, Wendy’s, and Five Guys, just to name a few places.

Overall, I was highly impressed with my experience at Chick-Fil-A.  The restaurant was clean, the cashiers were knowledgeable about the menu, service was prompt, and the chicken sandwich was amazing.

I will definitely be back.  Grade: A-
